  Xiushan Zhu简历:

Dr. Xiushan Zhu received the B. S. degree in physics and the M.S. degree in the area of optical information processing from Nankai University, Tianjin, China in 1996 and 1999, respectively, and the second M. S. degree from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, USA, in 2004. He received the Ph. D degree in the area of fiber lasers and amplifiers from the College of Optical Science, the University of Arizona, Tucson, USA, in 2008. After two years working as a postdoctoral research associate, he became Assistant Research Professor in 2011.

During 1999 to 2001, He worked as an optical engineer at Wuhan Research Institute of Posts and Telecommunications, Wuhan, China, where he was engaged in research of EDFAs and passive fiber devices for optical communications. At the University of New Mexico (2002-2006), his work focused on an all-fiber polarization transformer, mid-infrared fiber lasers and amplifiers, stimulated Brillouin scattering in optical fibers, and power scaling techniques of fiber lasers. At the University of Arizona (2006-present), his research interests include polarization states of laser arrays, fiber lasers and devices based on multimode interference, advanced fiber lasers and novel laser materials, advanced solid-state lasers, and nonlinear optical devices. Dr. Zhu has also been working at NP Photonics and AdValue Photonics as Optical Scientist since 2012. Dr. Zhu’s significant contributions include the first demonstration of 10-W-level mid-infrared ZBLAN fiber laser; the first demonstration of fiber lasers based on multimode interference, the first development of single-frequency ZBLAN fiber laser, the first CW mode-locked mid-IR fiber laser, and  the first photonic band gap device based on cobalt oxide nanoparticles. Dr. Zhu’s resume includes over 30 journal papers and more than 25 presentations at international conferences.

Dr. Zhu is a member of the Optical Society of America. He is an Assistant Editor for Journal of Optical Society of America B and a Topic Editor for Advances in Optics.
