  From binary optics to Metasurface optics - Forty years in research experiments 

  In this presentation I will give a brief overview on the research progress in the Holography and Diffractive Optics areas. Since Veldcamp used the semiconductor chip technology to fabricate optical elements In 1982, the diffractive/micro optical elements and holographic displays are taking place in the society serving, with smart cellphone cameras and VR/AR devices etc. Diffractive gratings play important role. Entering the new century, the plasmonic superlens, metamaterial, metesurface lens and nanolithography are expected to bring us to a new world of nanooptics. This overview is not produced by ChatGPT.

  报告人简介:

  Prof. Yunlong Sheng is graduated from University of Science and Technology of China (Beijing) in 1964. He obtained the Doctor in Optics degree in 1982 and State Doctor degree in Physics in 1986, both from University of Franche-Comte, France. Dr. Y. Sheng joints the Center for Optics, Photonics and Laser (COPL) University Laval Quebec, Canada 1985. He has been a Full Professor there and retired in 2018. 

  Prof. Y. Sheng’s Research interest involves holography, diffractive optics, pattern recognition, object detection and nano-optics. He was one of the Inventors of the complex fiber Bragg grating fabrication technique. He is a fellow of the Optics Society of America (OSA) and fellow of the International Society of Optical Engineering (SPIE). 

  Dr. Y. Sheng served as the Leader of the OSA Holography and Diffractive Optics Technical group in the Optical Society of America in 2016-2018 and a Chair “Holography and Diffractive Optics applications” Conference in Photonics Asia by SPIE/COS in 2001-2020.
